PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Calgary Hitmen rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to down the Portland Winterhawks 4-3 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League action.
Cody Sylvester scored two of the Hitmen's three goals in the final period, including the game winner with 1:32 left in regulation.
Alex Roach and Brooks Macek also scored for Calgary (34-16-4), which broke a three-game losing streak. Greg Chase contributed three assists for the Hitmen.
Brendan Leipsic, Shaun MacPherson and Ty Rattie scored for the Winterhawks (43-8-3), who ended a seven-game streak without a regulation loss.
Chris Driedger stopped 42 shots for the Hitmen, including all 19 he faced in the third period. His Portland counterpart, Mac Carruth, made 26 saves in defeat.
Portland scored the only goal of the first period on a long wrist shot by MacPherson that got past a screened Driedger.
Roach tied the game for Calgary on the power play midway through the second, but the Winterhawks seemingly took control with goals 14 seconds apart late in the period.
Sylvester's goal 56 seconds into the third period gave the Hitmen life. Macek tied the game on a rebound with 13:03 left in regulation shortly after a video review of a Portland shot that Driedger covered just before the puck crossed the goal-line.
With Portland pressing for a late goal, Calgary countered with an end-to-end rush, and Sylvester beat Carruth with a one-timer to win the game.
Both teams went 1 for 5 on the power play, and Portland failed to score in 1:58 of 5-on-3 time in the third period.
Red Deer 4, Prince George 3
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Patrik Bartosak put on a show with a 50-save performance as the Red Deer Rebels beat the Prince George Cougars 4-3 in a shootout in Western Hockey League play Wednesday.
Rhyse Dieno and Dominik Volek each scored for the Rebels in the shootout, while Joel Hamilton, Christian Stockl and Tyson Ness added goals in regulation.
Bartosak meanwhile was terrific in the third period as Red Deer (28-21-6) was being out-shot 20-10.
Zach Pochiro scored twice for Prince George (16-30-8) while Jari Erricson added one goal.
Cougars goalie Mac Engel meanwhile stopped 27 shots.
Victoria 4, Seattle 1
VICTORIA -- Jamie Crooks scored twice as the Victoria Royals beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1 in Western Hockey League action Wednesday night.
Austin Carroll and Ben Walker each scored and added an assist for the Royals (30-19-4).
Connor Sanvido had the Thunderbirds' only goal (19-31-5).
Victoria opened the scoring on the power play when Brandon Magee fed Carroll in the slot for a quick snapshot that beat Seattle goalie Brandon Glover low glove side.
Walker made it 2-0 halfway through the first period after taking a perfect feed from Carroll and scoring on a low wrist shot from just inside the right face off circle.
The Royals extended their lead to three goals on another power-play goal when Crooks picked up a loose puck in the goalmouth and poked it behind a fallen Glover.
The Thunderbirds got on the scoreboard early in the second period on a quick backhander from the slot by Sanvido.
The Royals made it 4-1 when Crooks scored his second of the game, breaking past the Thunderbirds defence and sliding the puck past goalie Danny Mumaugh, who had relieved Glover at the start of the second.
Royals goalie Patrick Polivka made a number of big saves during the game and shut the door in the third period, making eight saves.
Polivka continued his hot streak, stopping 31-of-32 shots in the game for his 26th win of the season. Glover made eight saves on 11 shots before being pulled in favour of Mumaugh, who stopped 18 of 19.
Spokane 5, Kelowna 0
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Eric Williams made 33 saves to help the Spokane Chiefs shut out the Kelowna Rockets 5-0 in Western Hockey League play Wednesday.
Brenden Kichton, Mike Aviani, Mitch Holmberg, Riley Whittingham and Todd Fiddler each scored for the Chiefs (31-20-2).
Jordon Cooke was pulled from the Rockets' (40-11-4) net after allowing three goals on 16 shots.
He was replaced by Jackson Whistle, who stopped 20-of-22 shots.
Saskatoon 7, Prince Albert 1
SASKATOON -- Michael Ferland and Matej Stransky each scored twice as the Saskatoon Blades hammered the Prince Albert Raiders 7-1 in Western Hockey League play Wednesday.
Shane McColgan, Erik Benoit and Collin Valcourt also scored for Saskatoon (29-21-3), which won its sixth straight game to move to within four points of the East Division-leading Raiders.
Leon Draisaitl scored the lone goal for Prince Albert (30-19-5) in the third period.
Andrey Makarov made 30 saves for Saskatoon, while Luke Siemens was pulled from the Raiders' net after stopping 28-of-33 shots. He was replaced by Andy Desautels, who gave up two goals on 13 shots.
Brandon 4, Lethbridge 1
BRANDON, Man. -- Curtis Honey made 36 saves to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 4-1 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday in the Western Hockey League.
Jens Meilleur scored two goals for Brandon, while his linemates Taylor Cooper (one goal, two assists) and Tim McGauley (three assists) had three points each.
John Quenneville also scored for the Wheat Kings, who improved to 20-31-4.
Axel Blomqvist replied for the Hurricanes (25-24-8).
Ty Rimmer made 29 saves for Lethbridge.
