Two goals by Brendan Gaunce helped lift the Belleville Bulls over the Oshawa Generals and into the East Division lead.
Gaunce scored consecutive goals in the first and second periods as Belleville beat the Generals 4-1 in the Ontario Hockey League on Wednesday.
The win vaulted the Bulls (26-13-5) over Oshawa (26-17-4) and into first in the division with 57 points.
Jake Worrad and Joseph Cramarossa had the other markers for the Bulls, who got 32 saves from Malcolm Subban in the victory. Belleville has now won seven of its past 10 games.
Cole Cassels scored the lone goal for the Generals.
Oshawa opened the scoring in the first period at the tail end of a Generals' penalty kill. Lucas Lessio took the puck to the net, and Cassels followed the play to bang home the game's first goal.
Gaunce answered back just over a minute and a half later with a snap shot that froze Daniel Altshuller.
Gaunce got his second of the game in the second frame with an identical shot that beat Altshuller clean for his 19th of the year.
Elsewhere in the OHL action, it was: Owen Sound 3, Barrie 0; Mississauga 4, Sarnia 2; Sault Ste. Marie 5 Sudbury 4 (OT); and Saginaw 4, Erie 3 (SO).
At Belleville, Ont., the Bulls closed out the game with two goals in third after Worrad and Cramarossa scored four minutes apart.
Altshuller, a former Bulls' prospect, made 31 saves in the loss.
Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.
