QMJHL: Wildcats move to fifth place with fifth straight win

The Moncton Wildcats moved to fifth place in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with their fifth straight win after shooting down the P.E.I. Rocket.

Yannick Veilleux had a hat trick in Moncton's 6-1 victory Wednesday that put the Wildcats two points clear of idle Rouyn-Noranda.

Dmitrij Jaskin, Lucas Batt and Ryan Penny also scored for Moncton (29-16-1), while Alex Dubeau made 26 saves.

Matej Beran scored the lone goal for the Rocket (25-20-2) on the power play in the second period, and goaltender Antoine Bibeau was on the hook for all six goals while stopping 33 shots.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Rimouski 4, Victoriaville 3; Gatineau 4, Baie-Comeau 2.

At Moncton, N.B., Jaskin and Batt scored in the first period to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

Beran cut that lead to one with a goal at 14:01 of the second period, but Veilleux answered back with a pair of power-play goals, one in the second and another in the third, to give Moncton a 4-1 advantage.

Penny scored at 16:45 and Veilleux put an exclamation mark on the Wildcats' offence with his third goal in the final minute of regulation.

Oceanic 4, Tigres 3

At Victoriaville, Que., Philippe Halley's third-period goal lifted Rimouski (31-11-5) and ended a three-goal rally by the Tigres (18-21-7). The Oceanic are on a six-game winning streak.


Olympiques 4, Drakkar 2

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Rock Regimbald scored a hat trick during a four-goal second period for Gatineau (21-22-3) against the Drakkar (31-12-4).
