OHL: McGinn scores twice as Storm defeat Petes

Brock McGinn scored twice Thursday to lead the Guelph Storm to a 5-3 win over the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League.

Justin Auger, Andrey Pedan and Zack Mitchell had the other goals for Guelph (24-14-5), which took an early lead and never looked back.

Stephen Nosad, Steven Trojanovic and Derek Mathers replied for Peterborough (12-25-7).

Garret Sparks made 24 saves to get the win, while Andrew D'Agostini stopped 32 shots at the other end.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Windsor 2, Mississauga 1; and Barrie 3, Oshawa 2 (SO).

At Peterborough, Ont., Auger opened the scoring at 4:14 of the first period before McGinn connected 1:45 later. Pedan then stretched the lead to 3-0 with a short-handed goal at 11:40.

Nosad replied with a short-handed goal of his own for the Petes at 6:18 of the second, but Mitchell scored on the power play at 10:26 and McGinn made it 5-1 just 1:23 later.

Trojanovic blasted home a point shot on the power play at 11:45 of the third for Peterborough and Mathers added a goal on another slapshot from just inside the blue-line with four seconds to play.

Guelph scored once on three-power play chances, while Peterborough was 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

Spitfires 2, Steelheads 1

At Windsor, Ont., Jaroslav Pavelka made 32 saves as the Spitfires (17-19-6) defeated Mississauga (20-18-4).

At Barrie, Ont., Erik Bradford scored the shootout winner the Colts (29-13-1) edged Oshawa (24-16-4).
