Blue Bombers sign former NFL running back Smith to contract

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added a NFL running back to their depth chart on Tuesday.

The club signed import RB Kevin Smith to a contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 27-year-old spent five seasons (2008-2012) with the Detroit Lions where he accumulated 2,346 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns over 54 games, including 31 starts. He also had 1, 082 yards receiving for five touchdowns.

Smith was selected in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Lions.

He played his college football at the University of Central Florida.

Winnipeg released import defensive end J.D. Griggs in another move.
