The Toronto Argonauts will be in need of another player to shore up their defensive line as DE Khalif Mitchell is not planning to report to the team, despite being acquired from the B.C. Lions in a trade earlier this month.

Mitchell's advisor, Guy Gillingham told TSN he is "1,000 per cent" sure the 27-year-old will not be reporting to Toronto because he wants to stay on the West coast.

"Khalif just wants a fresh start and wants to play his final season in the CFL," said Gillingham - confirming that Mitchell would try the NFL again after his contract expires at the end of the 2013 season.

Mitchell wants to be traded to Calgary or Edmonton only, or have the trade between the Lions and Argos reversed and have the Lions release him.

The Virginia Beach, Va native has a new job with a Seattle-based company and, as a result, would prefer to stay in the West.

Mitchell turned down a contract offer with a signing bonus from the Miami Dolphins before the 2012 season, to stay with BC.

The Argonauts sent DE Adrian Awasom and the rights to a negotiation list player to the Lions in exchange for the six-foot-five, 316-pound Mitchell, who was named a CFL all-star in 2011.

The Lions had been trying to trade Mitchell since January at the Senior Bowl.

"We made overtures to a number of teams and the only one that showed any interest was Toronto," said Wally Buono.

As for the possibility of trading Mitchell back to BC to get released, Buono added, "That's something I have no interest in discussing."

On Friday, the Toronto Argonauts released the following statement.

"On April 2, 2013, The Toronto Argonauts made a trade in good faith with the BC Lions and acquired import DL Khalif Mitchell. All Argonauts players, as per the Canadian Football League, are expected to report to training camp on June 1, 2013. The club will have no further comment on the matter at this time."

Mitchell has registered 54 tackles and eight sacks in 34 career CFL games.

Prior to joining the Lions, Mitchell spent two seasons on the practice roster of the NFLs San Francisco 49ers.
