It appears Danny Maciocia will not be the next head coach of the Montreal Alouettes.

According to the Montreal Gazette, Maciocia informed the team that he will be returning for his third season as head coach of the Universite de Montreal Carabins of the CIS.

The former head coach and general manager of the Edmonton Eskimos flew to owner Robert Wetenhall's house in Palm Beach, Florida on Monday to be interviewed by Alouettes general manager Jim Popp.

But Maciocia decided to stay with the Carabins where he has a seven-year deal that includes a pension.

"This is a no-brainer for me," Maciocia told montrealgazette.com on Friday. "It's not a question. I was firm with what I'm doing. It's too good of a deal for me and my family. I feel better with what I'm doing."

Maciocia started his CFL coaching career with the Alouettes in 1996.
