J.C. Sherritt is champing at the bit to return to the lineup. But, first, he has to prove to Edmonton Eskimos head coach Chris Jones that he's healthy. Sherritt, the CFL's most outstanding defensive player in 2012, has missed two of the Eskimos' first three games with a lingering foot injury. "Things are definitely progressing. It was good to be back out here," he said Tuesday at Commonwealth Stadium after making his first appearance at practice this week.

Offensive lineman Justin Sorenson, who hurt his knee during training camp, was pulled off the six-game injured list and will replace Adam Baboulas as the backup centre in Thursday's road game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Baboulas goes on the one-game injured list. - Edmonton Journal

A line featuring tackles Marc Dile and Joel Figueroa, centre Mike Filer and guards Pete Dyakowski and Greg Wojt would likely be a pretty good one. Unfortunately, every single one of them are sidelined by injury.

The Ticats are currently employing three Americans by using Brian Simmons - a starting tackle much of the last three seasons - at guard. Simmons will get his second start at guard this week against Calgary along with fellow guard Landon Rice and veteran centre Tim O'Neill. But the team will start a new tackle for the third straight week, most likely Jeremy Lewis who was signed on Sunday.

Receiver Andy Fantuz practised for a third straight day and head coach Kent Austin sounded optimistic about his return Friday in Calgary... Among the players who didn't practise on Tuesday: receiver Cary Koch, offensive linemen Greg Wojt and Joel Figueroa as well as linebackers Rico Murray and Beau Landry. - Hamilton Spectator

The Tiger-Cats have added international defensive back Ed Gainey to the practice roster. - Team Release

Jul 15, 11:49 AM - Ottawa

Ottawa
Sharing left tackle reps with import Nate Menkin on Monday was Jeraill McCuller, a 6-foot-7, 325-pounder who was also a team captain at North Carolina State when he played with Wilson, who won the Super Bowl last February. If the RedBlacks decided to beef up their protection by dressing both Menkin and McCuller against the Argos, they'd have to change their ratio by adding a Canadian elsewhere. That might not be the ideal scenario, but it could be necessary. - Ottawa Sun
