Aaron Ekblad will miss the remainder of summer development camp for the 2015 World Juniors, as Hockey Canada confirmed Wednesday that the blueliner suffered a concussion in their exhibition game against the Czech Republic.
Ekblad was taken off Canada's lineup sheet at practice on Wednesday morning, a decision made by both Hockey Canada and the Florida Panthers for precautionary reasons.
"We have been in communication with Team Canada and have mutually agreed to hold Aaron out for the remainder of the summer development camp, as a precautionary measure," Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said in a team statement on Wednesday.
"We will closely monitor Aaron's health for the remainder of the off-season and expect him to be ready for our rookie camp in mid-September."
He was hit hard at the Czech blue line in the third period of Tuesday's 6-2 victory and left the ice looking wobbly. He did not return to the game.
Ekblad was drafted first overall by the Panthers in June.
