Ekblad named Canadian captain for Ivan Hlinka tournament

Defenceman Aaron Ekblad of the OHL's Barrie Colts was named captain of Canada's Under-18 team for the 2013 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, which begins Monday in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

In addition, Kingston Frontenacs forward Sam Bennett and Victoria Royals defenceman Joe Hicketts will serve as alternate captains during the tournament.

Canada's Under-18 team will begin its quest for a sixth consecutive gold medal on Monday when it faces the Czech Republic in Group A action in Breclav. It will be the first of three games in three days for Canada, which faces Sweden on Tuesday and Switzerland on Wednesday during the preliminary round.

The top two teams from Group A and Group B will cross over for the semifinals on Friday before the gold medal game and bronze medal game on Saturday.
