Hockey Canada named its team for the Ivan Hlinka tournament, and it includes three potential first-round picks from the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL.
Defenceman Roland McKeown and forwards Sam Bennett and Spencer Watson were three of 22 players named Monday to coach Dale Hunter's team for the annual summer tournament that will take place in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia.
Ten other players on the roster were on NHL Central Scouting's 2013-14 futures list: defencemen Joe Hicketts from Victoria (WHL), Haydn Fleury from Red Deer (WHL), Aaron Ekblad from Barrie (OHL) and forwards Jayce Hawryluk from Brandon (WHL), Robert Fabbri from Guelph (OHL), Jared McCann from Sault Ste. Marie (OHL), Michael Dal Colle from Oshawa (OHL), Jake Virtanen from Calgary (WHL), Daniel Audette from Sherbrooke (QMJHL) and Alexis Pepin from PEI (QMJHL).
All but two players are 2014 NHL draft-eligible, including goaltenders Julio Billia and Mason McDonald. The two 2015-eligible players are defencemen Ryan Pilon from Lethbridge of the WHL and Alexandre Carrier from Gatineau in the QMJHL.
The tournament is Aug. 5-10, and Canada plays in Group A in Breclav with the Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland.
Canada has won five straight Ivan Hlinka tournaments.
