As part of TSN's coverage of the IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship in Ottawa, members of Canada's National Women's Team are blogging their experiences throughout the tournament on In this edition, forward Natalie Spooner and blueliners Courtney Birchard and Catherine Ward share their thoughts on the first two games of the tournament.

OTTAWA, Ont. – We started the tournament Tuesday, April 2 with a big game against the United States. The team was so excited to finally start worlds! We have such a big rivalry with the U.S., so we knew we would have to come out ready.

To add to the excitement, we got to wear the Canadian third jersey by Nike's LIVEStrong, which were not only for a great cause, but also looked pretty sharp.

The start of the game we got out to a bit of a slow start and the U.S. got two early ones on us in the first period. We knew that we had to just stick to our game plan, but pick up the intensity a bit.  We pushed hard and their goalie made some really nice saves, but eventually we tied up the game 2-2!

This led us into a scoreless overtime and then into a shootout. In the first round, Meghan Agosta-Marciano scored for us but the U.S. scored, too. So we went to a fourth shooter. Coach called Jennifer Wakefield to shoot and she had a beautiful move and pulled it backhand and roofed it! Shannon Szabados made a great save and we had won the game! The crowd was great and really helped cheer us along.

Our second game was against Switzerland. We came out again and got better as the game went on. They played a tough first period, but our endurance pulled through and we ended up dominating the game. With two games under our belt, we prepare to take on the Finns tomorrow, and they always give us a good game. Can't wait!
