MONTREAL -- A bout featuring Cuban boxing star Yuriorkis Gamboa has been added to a June 8 boxing card featuring Canada's Adonis Stevenson against WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson.
Gamboa (22-0), the WBA's interim junior lightweight champion, will move up to lightweight (135 pounds) to face Colombian Darley Perez (28-0) at the Bell Centre.
"We're very thrilled," promoter Yvon Michel said Monday. "You can consider Gamboa one of the top 10, pound for pound, in the world.
"And in terms of excitement, he's top-five."
Gamboa, the 2004 Olympic gold medallist who is promoted by hip hop star Curtis (50 Cent) Jackson, was scheduled to face another opponent on June 8 in Las Vegas.
When that bout fell through, he was put on the Montreal card against Perez as the co-feature to Stevenson-Dawson. Both bouts are to be televised in the U.S. by the HBO specialty channel.
The card is to be held on the same weekend as the Canadian Grand Prix Formula One race.
Gamboa, called El Ciclon de Guantanamo, held the WBA featherweight title before taking the WBA interim belt at junior lightweight.
