The Boston Red Sox, bouncing back with authority from a disastrous 2012 season, have reached the top spot in the MLB Power Rankings.

With a 19-8 record and major-league-best plus-47 run differential, it's been a different season already for Boston.

Not far behind, the Detroit Tigers jumped from 10 to two this week, as they had a five-game winning streak, which included a sweep of the Atlanta Braves, snapped on Wednesday.

Still in first place in the AL Central, ahead of Detroit, the Kansas City Royals vaulted from 15 to seven, while a bout of respectability (five wins in the last seven games) from the Chicago Cubs lifted them from 25 to 18.

Heading in the other direction, the Cincinnati Reds dropped from three to 11 after losing five of seven, while a six-game slide, snapped Wednesday, contributed to the New York Mets falling from 19 to 24.

The Toronto Blue Jays continue to languish near the bottom of the rankings, down to 27 from 24 after losing seven of nine.
