BUDAPEST, Hungary - Lewis Hamilton edged Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg for the fastest time in the third and final practice session ahead of qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday.
Hamilton's fastest lap of 1 minute, 24.048 seconds was just 0.047 seconds ahead of Rosberg, who leads the driver's championship. Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel was third, 0.407 seconds behind Hamilton, followed by Valtteri Bottas of Williams, Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.
Several drivers could be seen struggling to keep their cars from slipping on the dusty, winding Hungaroring circuit. On Friday, Hamilton had complained that neither the soft nor the medium compounds supplied for the race by Pirelli were providing enough grip.
Hamilton is seeking his third consecutive victory in Hungary and fifth overall.
