WILKES BARRE, Pa. -- Brad Thiessen made 26 saves for a shutout as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins beat the St. John's IceCaps 3-0 in American Hockey League play Thursday.

Alex Grant, Philip Samuelsson and Riley Holzapfel each scored for the Penguins (20-17-3).

Wilkes-Barre scored all three goals in the first period, chasing IceCaps starter Eddie Pasquale who made just nine saves.

The Penguins' offence died after that. Chris Carrozzi replaced Pasquale and had to make just three saves apiece in the second and third periods for St. John's (18-21-3).

Fatigue may have had something to do with the loss for St. John's -- the IceCaps were playing their fourth game in six nights.
