GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Captain Ryan Hamilton scored back-to-back goals, including the eventual winner, as the Toronto Marlies downed the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-1 on Saturday in American Hockey League play.
Hamilton had his first goal just 44 seconds into the third period, then put the puck into an empty net in the last minute of play.
Carter Ashton opened scoring for Toronto (18-9-3) in the second period. Jussi Rynnas made 27 saves for the win.
Gustav Nyquist gave Grand Rapids (17-9-2) a 1-0 lead in the first. Goaltender Tom McCollum stopped 21 of 23 shots for the Griffins.
The Marlies went 0 for 3 on the power play, while Grand Rapids couldn't score on six man advantages.
