Week 14 Picks

8:20 PM Thursday, December 06, 2012

Denver (-11.0)
@
Oakland
Schultz Picks: Oakland

World Picks: 73.7% - Denver
DEN 26 OAK 13 Denver Wins
Your Pick:

The Oakland Raiders have not won a game in a month and the Denvers Broncos have not lost a game in over a month. The problem with the Raiders is an absence in balance between pass and run. Carson Palmer had to throw the ball 54 time only to score 17 points. Denver's strength is second-half performance. In the third quarter of Sunday's game, they dominated and outscored the Bucs 21-0. The question is, can the Raiders keep it within 11 points. On national TV with all eyes on Denver at Oakland and a divisional game, I think they can. Oakland covers.

St. Louis
@
Buffalo (-3.0)
Schultz Picks: Buffalo

World Picks: 59.4% - Buffalo
STL 15 BUF 12 St. Louis Wins
Your Pick:

Tough one as St. Louis is coming off an excellent win over a good San Francisco team, 16-13 in overtime, and the Bills beat an improved Jacksonville team with relative ease 34-18. A big issue will be made about the weather as a dome team plays an outdoor team, but unless it is brutally cold it is not that big of an issue. Both teams are playing for jobs and respect and the timing of the game here in December is on the Bills side. Buffalo covers the 3, Bills.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Dallas
@
Cincinnati (-3.0)
Schultz Picks: Cincinnati

World Picks: 74.2% - Cincinnati
DAL 20 CIN 19 Dallas Wins
Your Pick:

Both teams need this game in every way to help qualify for the playoffs but with the Bengals winning four in a row I give them an edge. Cincinnati has scored six times on opening drives this season including in three of the past four games. Says a lot that they are well prepared and ready to go. And on the opposite side the Bengals have allowed an average of only 10.5 points over the last four wins. That side of the ball is improving too. Nick Foles last week made his third NFL start at QB for the Eagles and put up 33 points on the Cowboy defence. If he can do that on the road, Andy Dalton can do the same at home. Bengals cover the 3.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Kansas City
@
Cleveland (-5.5)
Schultz Picks: Kansas City

World Picks: 66.2% - Cleveland
KC 7 CLE 30 Cleveland Wins
Your Pick:

The Browns are not as bad as the 4-8 record indicates. There were two close wins over Pittsburgh and Oakland and a number of competitive losses. For the Chiefs it is about regrouping and trying to find purpose and meaning. Both teams will show up and play hard and logic says it will be a three-point win for one team. Chiefs keep it close, Chiefs.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Tennessee
@
Indianapolis (-5.5)
Schultz Picks: Indianapolis

World Picks: 91.2% - Indianapolis
TEN 23 IND 27 Tennessee Wins
Your Pick:

It seems like Andrew Luck is throwing 50 times a game to win. And if he has to do that against Tennessee it may be okay in that the Titans have given up a lot of points in many games this year. Also as a team, Tennessee is minus-10 on takeaway/giveaway. Being on the road in December is a key problem that does determine winning and losing. The Colts have won six of their last seven and the only loss was two weeks ago in New England when they self-destructed as much as the Patriots dominated. One of the good stories this year are the Colts. The Titans? Not so much. Colts cover 5.5, Colts.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Chicago (-2.5)
@
Minnesota
Schultz Picks: Minnesota

World Picks: 52.5% - Minnesota
CHI 14 MIN 21 Minnesota Wins
Your Pick:

The injuries the Bears have are significant. Brian Urlacher, Tim Jennings and a limited Matt Forte. In the past the Bears have dominated these head-to-head divisional games but they are vulnerable now even though two weeks ago they beat the Vikings 28-10. Adrian Peterson is playing the best football perhaps of his career right now, and Minnesota is 5-1 at home, 1-5 on the road. Vikings win.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

San Diego
@
Pittsburgh (-3.0)
Schultz Picks: Pittsburgh

World Picks: 91.9% - Pittsburgh
SD 34 PIT 24 San Diego Wins
Your Pick:

Have to admit, very impressed by the toughness of the Steelers in the three-point win at Baltimore. Now they play a Charger team that sometimes does not show the resiliency you need to win. With the Bengals playing so well, and the Ravens at 9-3, there are no other options for the Steelers but to get it done now. California to Pennsylvania, I will take Penn tough. Steelers cover the 3.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Philadelphia
@
Tampa Bay (-7.0)
Schultz Picks: Tampa Bay

World Picks: 79.1% - Tampa Bay
PHI 23 TB 21 Philadelphia Wins
Your Pick:

The Eagles have lost eight in a row, the Bucs have lost two in a row. But those two losses have been by one to the Falcons in Atlanta and by eight in Denver. Also, the Eagles have only four takeaways in the last 10 games. If Tony Romo can go 22 of 27 for 303 yards against the Eagles, then ever-improving Josh Freeman can too. Bucs cover the big 7, Bucs.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Baltimore (-1.0)
@
Washington
Schultz Picks: Washington

World Picks: 61.3% - Washington
BAL 28 WSH 31 Washington Wins
Your Pick:

Man, this is a tough one. Both teams are coming off major injury and/or suspension issues in the secondary. And the Ravens are coming off a loss to Pittsburgh and don't lose two in a row. They have not so far this season. As big as RG3 has played, Alfred Morris is the second reason for the Redskins success. He is a sixth-round pick from Florida Atlantic (not an NCAA power) and is playing like a first-round pick with 1,106 yards. The style of offence being run by Washington is so hard to defend because it has aspects of deception and balance that can keep the best NFL defences guessing and not reading/reacting. Baltimore on defence is allowing 128 yards a game, so if the Redskins get Alfred Morris going all other aspects fall into place. With no Terrell Suggs, it could happen. Washington in a close one. Redskins.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Atlanta (-3.5)
@
Carolina
Schultz Picks: Carolina

World Picks: 81.0% - Atlanta
ATL 20 CAR 30 Carolina Wins
Your Pick:

The Falcons are a team that is at their best when times are toughest. Mentally tough. Against New Orleans last week they won 23-13 but Matt Ryan was 1-for-11 on third down and threw for a season low of 165 yards. They do have a bit of a buffer in the desire to achieve home field throughout the playoffs. And in the last Carolina game the Falcons won by two points in Week 4. Divisional game, could be a repeat. Carolina keeps it within 3.

1:00 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

NY Jets (-2.5)
@
Jacksonville
Schultz Picks: Jacksonville

World Picks: 62.3% - Jacksonville
NYJ 17 JAC 10 NY Jets Wins
Your Pick:

Looks like Mark Sanchez will start and it is the right move. Tim Tebow is limited and Greg McElroy is inexperienced. Truth is many of Sanchez's mistakes are because he is pressing, knowing his career is on the line and all the good things that go with it. The player who has a real opportunity here is Chad Henne. The QB position is open and in the Texans game Henne did put up 37 points. Energy and confidence are everything in December and I am not sure the Jets have enough. Jaguars.

4:05 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Miami
@
San Francisco (-10.0)
Schultz Picks: San Francisco

World Picks: 64.5% - San Francisco
MIA 13 SF 27 San Francisco Wins
Your Pick:

All of a sudden Colin Kaepernick has become human but I would still stick with him as he is the future. Tough one because Miami is going about as far as you can go East to West and they are out of the playoffs. The 49ers did tie the Rams and lose to the Rams and I should have anticipated that, since it was NFC West vs. NFC West. But every game the 49ers have lost, the next week they come back and played well. Seven times this year Miami has scored 20 points or less, San Francisco is still very good on defence. At 8-3-1, they are only one-half game up on the Seahawks. 49ers respond and cover 10. 49ers.

4:25 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Arizona
@
Seattle (-10.5)
Schultz Picks: Seattle

World Picks: 67.6% - Seattle
ARI 0 SEA 58 Seattle Wins
Your Pick:

Confident that the Seahawks win, but by how much? If Arizona can only score six points on the Jets, how are they going to score 20 or more in Seattle where the Seahawks play with such great energy. It was Arizona that won the first game in Week 1, 20-16, and won three after that, but lost eight after that last win. Seattle is 5-0 at home and Russell Wilson has a QB rating of 122. The Cardinals had 15 third down plays against the Jets and converted zero. Seattle.

4:25 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

New Orleans
@
NY Giants (-5.0)
Schultz Picks: New Orleans

World Picks: 50.5% - New Orleans
NO 27 NYG 52 NY Giants Wins
Your Pick:

I like the Saints because of Drew Brees. He has thrown seven interceptions in the last two games. He is too competitive and has too much pride not to respond with a good game. Both teams should be able to score points, and the Giants need this one to stay ahead of both the Cowboys and Redskins. And in the three games the Giants did not commit a turnover they have outscored opponents 100-22. Still, Brees is not going down without a fight. Saints.

8:20 PM Sunday, December 09, 2012

Detroit
@
Green Bay (-7.0)
Schultz Picks: Green Bay

World Picks: 72.3% - Green Bay
DET 20 GB 27 Tie
Your Pick:

Oh yes, December cold in Green Bay, advantage home team. The first game was a close 24-20 win but the Packers had some serious kicking issues which should no longer be any issue. In the last two Packer games, Aaron Rodgers has a 70 per cent completion rate and seven touchdowns. He knows the personnel well and should have significant one-on-one moments to isolate and use big time. But, as a divisional game Detroit knows Green Bay too and no one has been able to stop Calvin Johnson. Head coach Jim Schwartz had the great comment this week as it relates to his 4-8 team. "This is a tough league for tough people, we will find out who is tough and who is not". So true. Packers.

8:30 PM Monday, December 10, 2012

Houston
@
New England (-3.5)
Schultz Picks: Houston

World Picks: 62.8% - New England
HOU 14 NE 42 New England Wins
Your Pick:

Every now and then the Houston Texans implode on defence. Detroit put 31 on them, Jacksonville scored 37 and we all remember the Green Bay Packers and their 42. But in the two recent losses to the Jaguars and Lions, Houston scored 43 and 34 to win. A very balanced team not dependent on one aspect of their game to always win. The Patriots have won six in a row and as a football organization, no one plays better in December than the New England Patriots. But the Texans still have to stay aware of Denver and New England to win home field throughout the playoffs. Big-time football pride game, field goal for one or the other. With Gronkowski and Edelman out for the Patriots, I'll take the Texans to cover.
